Welcome back- first assignment (To-Do List)

Hi Class,

Welcome back to what is going to be a great year together!  Here is a quick to-do list for the start of the semester. All seven points need to be completed by Monday, August 29th.

  1. Accept the invitation I sent via email to become an author on the class blog.
  2. Set up a personal website dedicated to your art practice. The website must allow you to format longer text and post images/video. Blogs are fine however Twitter, tumblr, and Instagram will not work due to limited text formatting. If you have and use these, feel free to link them to your new website. Here are some links to different website options. More here.
  3. Write a draft of your artist statement/statement of intent. This should be descriptive of what you have done in the past, and what you intend to do this year. It should include things that you are interested in (what drives you) and how/where you want to engage with your work. Examples include gallery, site specific, web, social practice, design, industry, etc.
  4. Brainstorm your first project proposal. This can be an avenue of experimentation, or a specific project (or series of projects) to complete. Be sure to include background research with at least two sources (artists and/or texts)
  5. Start to gather materials for your first project.
  6. Make a list of artists that you want to do research on for your presentation.
  7. Sign up for an area of the shop to maintain. This is first come-first serve and there will be 2-3 students per section. These will be switched at the start of second quarter. Here are the areas:
    1. Deep Sweep -Sweep behind all tools and under cabinets/tables, and closets. Vacuum on monthly schedule, including walls in wood shop.
    2. Table Top - wipe all tables and work benches, scrape and wash when necessary. Remove nails, staples, paint and graffiti on monthly schedule.
    3. Sink or Swim - wipe down interior and exterior of the shop sinks in wood shop and plaster room. Remove debris and unclog drain when necessary. Polish on monthly schedule.
    4. Scrap & Yard- Keep common areas clean of student projects and materials (including hallways). Orgainze (sort) scrap wood bins and material storage areas. Clean out scrap bins, common areas, and student storage areas on monthly schedule.
    5. Tool- Keep tool closet and cabinets clean and organized. Be sure all tools are returned to their rightful resting place at the end of each class. Remove all tools and deep vacuum closet and cabinets on monthly schedule.
