Assignment- Studio Proposal Outline



Instructions- Create an outline addressing all of the following points in as much detail as possible. This will help you in getting started with your conceptual development as an artist- finding a conversation to be a part of, finding something to contribute, setting material/actual goals and determining a plan to get there.  Have fun!


Studio Proposal 
I.               Research (Introduction to a topic)
a.     Artists/Art movements
b.     Other areas of research

II.             Path of Inquiry (Deeper investigation of a topic)
a.     What direction will I take? Focus.
b.     What does the road look like?
c.      Where do I think it will lead?

III.           Development of Thesis (Beyond the topic)
a.     The thesis statement is the sentence that states the main idea of your project and helps control the ideas within the paper. It is not merely a topic. It often reflects an opinion or judgment that a writer has made about a reading or personal experience.
b.     For our purposes the Thesis may also be experimental, but it must have a goal in mind. It is still not simply a topic.

IV.            Material Goal (Defense of topic? Purpose of Experimentation?)

V.              Action Plan (How will you get there?)
a.     Small works – define them according to need/purpose
b.     Deadlines of Small works
c.      Benchmarks
d.     Hard Deadlines- critiques

VI.            Self Assessment
a.     Process
b.     Formal/aesthetic
c.      Conceptual/communicative

VII.          Presentation
a.     Artist Statement
b.     Oral presentation at critique

VIII.        Documentation
a.     Appropriate photo/video documentation

b.     Uploaded to personal website
                                               i.     Includes statement
                                              ii.     Includes images and/or link to video
