Experimental /Process piece
In creating this piece, I sewed the main body- being the gray spheres along with the pale yellow link- then separately hand sew and machine sewed organic shapes that I derived from observing cartoon characters from TV shows, or my own doodles. I wanted to create new work and explore something new while making it; in thinking about how to create something different while learning how to develop my piece in a different way, my dog chewed up one of my objects and had the idea to include by dogs into the process of creating my piece.
I used crackers and bells, stuffed inside of each object along with the cotton, to encourage them to play with the piece, throw it around, tear it open and chew it up. I wanted to take the piece out from my own hands and add a diffferent component to it by giving it character.
