Karina- Monday HW

Artist Statement

Most of my past work has consisted of experimentation because I was trying to find a concept and style that felt personal and natural to me. Last year was a significant year in artistic growth because I started to find a voice for myself that felt authentic and successful. This year, I want to polish up and establish my portfolio for colleges and any other artistic decisions I make in the future. I am interested in psychology, emotional communication, existentialist ideas, and raising awareness against mental health stigmas in society. Creating art has become a major aspect of my life because it became therapy for my depression and anxiety. I have struggled with emotional communication all my life so my art has become a way for me to express my troubles with others in a healthy way. Putting my emotions out into the world in a way that feels valid and productive is helpful for myself personally and career-wise.  Becoming a gallery artist is a main goal of mine. I have found myself moving away from producing 2-D work and moving into 3-D media and installations. I want my work to be interactive and I want to engage with the audience since my work has to do with communication.
