Getting Started for REAL this time

It was three weeks ago that we decided to start this blog and we've been waiting for Mr. Lambert to set an example for us but he claims to be busy with other things. So I, Amy, have taken initiative to get this party started.

* we've also decided to make it an open and ongoing assignment. So you don't have to wait your turn but you do have to make a solid post by the end of the semester.

How to make a post:

Pick an artist:

(duh!) You can pick anyone! Anyone you think relates to your work, anyone who inspires you, anyone you've seen in a museum, anyone a teacher has referenced you to. As long as they are a legit artist who has shown in some show at some point.
     some helpful sites: art21
                                   Saatchi Gallery
                                   Getty Museum
                                   LA MOCA
                                  Miami MOCA
                                  PAMM
                                   Whitney Museum
                                 Rubell Collection
                                De La Cruz Collection
                                  Tate Modern Museum

some sites you shouldn't use: tumblr, etsy, pinterest

Research:

get some basic info (birth place, time period, artistic movement, etc.) and anything else you think is relevant to their work.

what are some related artists? who are they influenced by? what is their relation to other things outside of the art world?

What you should give us:

  • Who are they?
  • When were/are they making art?
  • Where were/are they making art?
  • Why were/are they making art?
  • How did/do they make art?
* cite any source you get the information from so that it's not considered plagiarism and so that we can use it if we'd like to know more information

Show the pieces you like the most (and give us a link for more)

Give us some related artists, who they are influenced by, and what their relation is to topics outside of the art world.

Tell us how you respond to this artist, why are you sharing it with us?

Post a link to their website if they have one.
